We’re growing

At M Group Services and across our operating businesses, we are committed to engaging and empowering our people and providing a safe environment for them to grow personally and professionally.

In our latest ESG Report, we highlighted some of the ways in which we are creating new and exciting opportunities for our people. In 2021/22, we recruited 159 ex-armed forces people and took on 50 new apprentices. We have over 263 apprentices now working their way towards new qualifications, gaining skills and experience every day.

We’re learning

In addition to our focus on recruiting, we are also committed to providing professional development to our people across the Group. Last year, we delivered 261,549 training hours to our people.

Some of our most popular courses booked onto last year included: Energy & Utility Skills Register’s (EUSR) National Water Hygiene, New Roads and Street Works’ (NRSWA) Operative/Supervisor training, Emergency First Aid at Work (one day course), EUSR Cat 1 (CAT & Genny) and the Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).

We also encourage people to enhance and grow their skills through our Management Development Programme which is increasingly popular with many across the Group.

We’re listening

As we grow and invest in learning, we also believe in the importance of listening to our people. This is why, every autumn, we invite people to participate in our People Opinion Survey.

Last year’s People Opinion Survey was completed by 66% of our people. By sharing their experiences and opinions through the survey, our people raised a total of £4,558 for charity. This was shared between the British Heart Foundation, Dementia UK, Mind and the Prince's Trust. We also planted 11,680 trees through the Eden Reforestation Project.

This year, as in previous years, for every survey completed, our people have the choice of the Group donating £1 to charity or planting 10 trees on their behalf. This year, the charities we’re supporting are the British Heart Foundation, Dementia UK, Mind and Trussell Trust, a UK food bank charity.

This year’s survey is due to launch on Monday 24 October and we look forward to hearing from our people and supporting good causes as a result.
