In its commitment to ensuring the safety of its drivers and the public, M Group Services Plant & Fleet Solutions is implementing a trial of The Driver Handbook app across all of M Group Services’ Divisions.

Driving is the biggest risk that our people face daily, and we are committed to giving our drivers the tools to ensure they are carrying out their tasks legally, safely, and in a respectful way to other road users.

We are committed to managing our vehicles and drivers to achieve the highest standards of driver safety, compliance, and sustainable driving. The trial, which will begin on 31 January, will test all elements of The Driver Handbook.

Initially, we completed a test trial of The Driver Handbook app in 2023, working with two of our operating businesses, KH Engineering and Milestone Infrastructure, to understand the benefits for our people.

The app is an industry platform that has been designed to help businesses manage their drivers’ legal compliance and will be tailored so it’s specific to our Group, with the below benefits:

  • Drivers will receive the most relevant, up-to-date information at their fingertips.
  • The app will eliminate the need for a paper company driver handbook, as well as the printing of any documentation the driver has to complete, helping towards our sustainability targets.
  • The app will provide drivers on-the-go with access to Transport policies, Toolbox Talks and all driver declarations, and eyesight checks will be stored on the app.
  • Drivers can confirm they have read the content via the app, with all information saved to the driver handbook management dashboard, providing managers with up-to-date information on the legal compliance of their drivers.
  • The app allows managers to send time sensitive information quickly to an individual or group of drivers, without the need of an email address.

Speaking on the benefits of The Driver Handbook, George McChord, Compliance Manager for Transport Operations at M Group Services Plant & Fleet Solutions, said: “We are committed to finding ways to make our operations more sustainable, efficient, and compliant, while protecting the welfare of our people and the communities in which we work.

“We have a responsibility to ensure drivers have the information they need to carry out their duties safely and legally, meaning information drivers receive needs to be relevant, up-to-date, and available to them when they need it.”
