We are committed to supporting our Ex-Armed Forces community across M Group Services and its operating businesses and are proud to have recently been named one of 100 GREAT British Employers of Veterans.

From today, 2 October, two teams of volunteers from across the Group will be taking part in the Medicine Ball Challenge, raising awareness of mental wellbeing and fundraising for two charities: ABF The Soldiers Charity and Combat Stress.

Created by a serving soldier and former officer, the aim of the Medicine Ball Challenge is to raise awareness and encourage people to talk openly about their wellbeing.

Each participant will be cuffed to a 3kg Medicine Ball for seven days before passing the ball on to the next person. The ball becomes a physical, visual and tangible representation of the invisible burden of mental health so many of us can experience.

Richard Nelson Group Head of Training Compliance and Ex-Armed Forces Lead commented: “The aim of the event is to generate awareness of stress and anxiety within the armed forces community and to break down the stigma of mental health issues. I would encourage people to talk about their problems – it’s ok to not be ok.”

Earlier today, David Steele, ESG&I Technical Content Manager (pictured centre) representing our Ex-Armed Forces community was on hand to launch the challenge, together with our first two participants, James Hobson, Finance Director at Morrison Water Services, and Jonny Yarr, Executive Director – M&A.

Throughout the challenge, the volunteers will share their experiences and their reasons for taking part. If you’d like to donate, please visit the team’s joint fundraising page:
