This week (17-23 October) is National Recycling Week.

At M Group Services, we are always looking for innovative ways to recycle waste.

i&c, part of M Group Services’ Water Division, is using plastic bottles to build protective electrical equipment kiosks made from 97% recycled materials.

Each waterproof kiosk is built from Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a recyclable polyester resin-based plastic material primarily found in plastic bottles.

Over 5,000 plastic bottles are recycled in each 3m x 3m x 2.4m glass reinforced plastic (GRP) kiosk.

The bottles are cut into small pieces, washed down, and processed to be reused as PET resin and PET foam core.

PET resin, a strong and flexible material, makes up the core construction of the kiosk.

The foam core is 100% recycled and has many advantages such as convenient processing, high weather resistance and an environmentally friendly reuse of a product that is generally discarded.

Craig Young, Business Development Manager at i&c, said: “Our 97% recycled bottle PET kiosks are designed and manufactured to a high-quality. It’s only the outer finishing coat that cannot yet be recycled. We are confident we’re providing the most effective and environmentally friendly solution available to our clients.”

i&c offer bespoke enclosures from large multi-component structures to small ones. They are designed and created offsite but easily transported.

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) reports that globally only 9% of all plastic is recycled. The remaining plastic pollutes the environment or can be found in dumps and landfills. That’s why, as a Group we are finding ways to tackle this issue which helps us meet our commitment to halve our carbon emissions by 2030 and reach net-zero before 2050.
