ESG | M Group Services Plant & Fleet Solutions (MGSPFS) is proud to now offer over 100 sustainable welfare units to M Group Services’ operating businesses.

These units provide our people with a meeting space, kitchen and toilet facilities and are essential for the wellbeing of everyone working on or visiting a site. We have increased our investment in these welfare facilities from 75 to 105 units.

These innovative welfare units, designed by our supplier Genquip Groundhog, reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80% helping us work towards our commitment to halve our direct and indirect carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero before 2050.

The welfare units have a range of environmentally friendly features:

  • Solar panels that charge the 12V battery.
  • Recycled non-slip flooring that is non-porous and hardwearing.
  • Thermostat temperature sensors that reduce fuel consumption and maintain constant heat.
  • Warm water foot switches which save water consumption and operate without the need for a generator.
  • Air blown heating systems, a highly efficient system that runs without the need for a generator and consumes just 0.1L of fuel per hour, reducing fuel usage and carbon emissions even further.
  • Internal and external motion light sensors to save electricity.
  • All steel structures, using one of the most suitable metals for recycling.
  • Fitted telemetry systems where information and data are collected through automatic measurement and wireless transmission ensuring the units are serviced only when necessary, preventing wasted journeys.

For the times when these units are not generating and consuming their own solar power, these sustainable units use FuelActive, a method of delivering 92% cleaner fuel to the engine. The process involves drawing fuel from just below the surface of the fuel tank, which can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 5%. The units are also compatible with sustainably sourced hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel. Ultimately this alternative method can reduce the non-solar fuel costs by up to 80%.

The units are easy to install, taking less than three minutes for one person to do. They provide an environmentally friendly, health and safety compliant place for our people.
